The procedure for granting permission for residence for a specified period of time begins with sending the file to three bodies: the Border Guard, Internal Security Agency and the Police. The responsibilities of the Police are, among others, to determine whether the foreigner is actually present at the address indicated in the application. This is standard procedure in cases for a temporary residence card. Unfortunately, the Police visits are almost always unannounced.
